Wanderjournal

Privacy policy

Last updated 26 October 2026

The short version: Wanderjournal doesn't collect any personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no adverts and no tracking. Your journal stays on your iPhone and in your own iCloud, and we can't see it.

Who we are

Wanderjournal is made by Ilkley Creative Ltd, a company registered in England, based in Ilkley, West Yorkshire. If you have any questions about this policy, email james@ilkleycreative.com.

What we collect

Nothing. Wanderjournal doesn't send your stamps, journal pages, photos, notes, location or usage to us or to anyone else. We don't use analytics or crash-reporting services, and the app contains no third-party code that collects data.

Your journal and iCloud

Everything you add is stored on your iPhone. If you're signed in to iCloud, your journal is also synced to your own private iCloud database using Apple's CloudKit, so it's backed up and available on your other iPhones. That data is held by Apple under your Apple Account and is only accessible to you. We have no access to it. Apple's handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple's privacy policy.

Your photos

If you choose to use "Find trips in my photos", Wanderjournal asks for access to your photo library. It reads when and where your photos were taken, on your iPhone, to suggest the countries you've visited. Photos you add to a journal are copied into your journal (and so into your iCloud, if sync is on). Your photo library is never uploaded to us. You can change or remove photo access at any time in the iPhone Settings app.

Place names and maps

To show place names and map pieces, Wanderjournal uses Apple's built-in location and map services, the same ones Apple Maps uses. When it does this, the coordinates involved are sent to Apple to look up the place or draw the map. These requests go to Apple, not to us, and are covered by Apple's privacy policy.

Purchases

Wanderjournal Plus is sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment and tells the app whether Plus is unlocked. We don't receive your name, email address or payment details.

Widgets

The Home Screen widgets show information from your journal. The app shares it with the widgets through a private folder on your iPhone, and it never leaves your device that way.

If you contact us

If you send feedback or report a bug, the email starts with your iPhone model, iOS version and app version filled in, which you can delete before sending. We receive whatever you choose to send, along with your email address, and use it only to reply and to improve Wanderjournal. We don't add you to any mailing list. Ask us at any time to delete your emails.

Children

Wanderjournal is suitable for all ages and doesn't collect data from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Because we hold no personal data from the app, there's nothing for us to access, correct or delete. To remove your journal, delete it in the app (Settings, then Start my journal over) or delete the app; to remove the iCloud copy, go to iPhone Settings, then your name, iCloud, Manage Storage, Wanderjournal. Under UK data protection law you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
